What’s in season for November?

In the UK, November tends to see lots of root vegetables coming into season, as well harvests from fruit like apples and pears. Brassicas like Brussels sprouts and cabbage are also in season, as are fruits like quince, cranberries and clementines.

Trying to cook gluten free can be expensive, so eating seasonal fruit and veg can be a good way to help reduce costs for the household. And it’s even better when you’ve grown or forages your own!

For November vegetables look for parsnips, carrots, swede, pumpkin, beetroot, celeriac, Brussels sprouts, kale, chard, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli. Winter squash and mushrooms are also in season now.

For November fruits look for apples and pears, cranberries, quince, sloes, pomegranates and citrus like clementines being imported.

My favourite gluten free recipes for November: Of course with Bonfire Night at the start of the month I’m all about the traditional bakes like Gluten Free Parkin or Gluten Free Ginger Cake, served up after a bowl of Chilli Con Carne or 3 Bean Chilli in an Air Fryer Jacket Potato. It’s also big roast dinner season, so I’m loving seasonal sides like Honey Roast Carrots and Parsnips, then turning leftovers into soup like my Winter Veg Soup, Roast Carrot and Parsnip Soup, or creamy Parsnip Soup for a week of easy lunches.
