August is always a great month for fruit and veg here in the UK – perfect for making up salads galore and baking all sorts of fruity treats.

What’s in season for August?
In the UK the vegetable patch goes wild, with freezer stuffed full of courgettes (zucchini), tomatoes ripening into bursts of juicy flavour and berries galore in the garden – if you can wrestle them from the birds!
It’s the perfect time to cook with lots of seasonal fresh fruit and veg, which is naturally gluten free! Often a gluten free diet can be expensive, so trying to eat seasonally can be a good way to keep the costs down.
For August vegetables you can find plentiful tomatoes, courgettes, new potatoes, watercress, peppers and salad leaves. Fresh herbs are also in abundance, perfect for seasoning salads and main dishes.
For August fruits look for strawberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, blackberries. Of course, there are lots more fruits and veggies in season during this month, but these are some of my favourites!
Below are recipes using some of my favourite seasonal fruit and veg for August. Thinking ahead to next month? Check out my September recipes next!
My favourite gluten free recipes for August: Courgette and Halloumi Fritters (for the garden glut!), Ricotta and Raspberry Cake (so light and fluffy!), Peach and Halloumi Salad (obsessed), Lemon Ice Lollies (for those HOT days) and Greek Salad (because it’s the best!)
