This Prawn Pasta Is A 15-Minute Wonder!

A plate of creamy prawn pasta with lemon and capers.
  • Why choose this recipe? With zingy summer flavours, fat juicy prawns and gluten free tagliatelle, this easy Prawn Pasta recipe is a speedy meal you can easily make on repeat!
  • Top Tip: I added peas and rocket (arugula) for a pop of colour but you can add any veg of choice – try cherry tomatoes, spinach or asparagus spears.
  • Pasta of Choice: I usually use supermarket own brand gluten free tagliatelle, spaghetti or linguine, found in the free from aisles. However it would also work with different shapes like penne or fusilli too.

Ingredients and Substitutions

There’s a printable recipe card below for this 15-minute Prawn Pasta recipe with the full quantities. But here are the main ingredients and ideas for any swaps.

  • Gluten Free Tagliatelle: Find this in the free from aisle, or use any gluten free pasta of choice (or non-gluten-free, if you don’t need it but like the look of this recipe!)
  • King Prawns: I like to cook these from raw to absorb the flavours but you can just add cooked king prawns in if you prefer.
  • Garlic
  • Grana Padano cheese: Or any hard Italian cheese, like parmesan.
  • White Wine: You can swap this for the same quantity of the pasta cooking water if you don’t want to include alcohol but it really makes this dish for me.
  • Frozen Peas: Or veg of choice, such as chopped asparagus or tenderstem broccoli.
  • Capers: Omit these if you don’t like them, or chop them finely for the flavour.
  • Lemon: I use lemon zest for a subtle, zingy flavour.
  • Double Cream: Heavy cream in the US. You could use a low fat cream cheese or creme fraiche for a lighter recipe.
  • Rocket: Or arugula in the US. Swap for spinach if you’re not a fan!

How to Make Creamy Prawn Pasta

There’s a printable recipe card below with the method. But here are some step-by-step photos to show you how easy this gluten free lemon and prawn pasta recipe is to make.

Cook the prawns and garlic in a frying pan.
Step 1: Cook the king prawns and garlic in a frying pan.
Add the white wine and peas to the pan.
Step 2: Add the white wine, capers, cheese, lemon zest and peas to the pan.
Add the double cream to the pan and reduce the sauce.
Step 3: Add the double cream to the pan and reduce the sauce.
Stir the gluten free pasta into the prawns and sauce.
Step 4: Stir the gluten free pasta into the cooked prawns and sauce.

This dish is better cooked fresh. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge but you may find the sauce has been absorbed by the pasta when reheating. So I’d just make what you need.

Ingredients

  • 250 g gluten free tagliatelle, (spaghetti or linguine work too)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 200 g raw king prawns
  • 2 tsp chopped garlic
  • 50 g Grana Padano cheese, (grated)
  • 75 ml white wine
  • 75 g frozen peas
  • 35 g capers
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 75 ml double cream
  • Rocket, (arugula)

Instructions

  • Bring a pan of heavily salted water to the boil and cook the pasta as per the pack instructions – usually 8-10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add the olive oil to a large pan and place on a medium heat. Add the prawns and garlic and cook for 3-4 mins (until completely pink if using raw prawns).
  • Add the Grana Padano cheese, white wine, peas, capers and lemon zest and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the liquid starts to reduce.
  • Turn the heat down low, add the cream, mix well and then remove from the heat. Drain the cooked pasta and stir through – serve with a wedge of lemon and lots of rocket.
