July is when the summer fruit and veg starts to come into harvest in the UK, the perfect time for summer salads, fruity desserts and quick and simple meals. It’s also the best time to fire up the BBQ!

What’s in season for July?

In the UK, July is the time you can start reaping the rewards of your gardening efforts, harvesting the first courgettes, tomatoes, berries and salad leaves galore.

It’s the perfect time to start cooking with lots of seasonal fresh fruit and veg, which is naturally gluten free! Trying to cook gluten free can be expensive, so eating seasonal fruit and veg can be a good way to help reduce costs for the household.

For July vegetables you can start to find fresh salad leaves, courgettes, tomatoes, beetroot, new potatoes, asparagus, broad beans, peas and watercress, as well as fresh herbs like mint and basil.

For July fruits look for strawberries, raspberries, peaches, cherries, rhubarb, blueberries, blackberries. There are lots more fruits and veggies in season during this month, but these are some of my favourites!

Below are recipes using some of my favourite seasonal fruit and veg for July. Thinking ahead to next month? Check out my August recipes next!

My favourite gluten free recipes for July: Watercress Soup (surprisingly refreshing for a hot day), Courgette Risotto (with a lemon twist), Chimichurri Smashed Potatoes (with lots of zingy fresh herbs), Rhubarb and Pear Crumble (delicious!), Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins (perfect for picnics) and Frozen Strawberry Yoghurt Bites (the best snack for a hot day!).
