The Best Gluten Free Burgers Recipe Ever!

A gluten free beef burger outside.
  • Why choose this recipe? These Gluten Free Beef Burgers only need 3 ingredients, are naturally gluten free and so tasty and juicy. I’ve got methods below for cooking in a pan, air fryer, or on the grill or BBQ.
  • No Fillers: Unlike supermarket beef patties these are made just with beef mince, parsley and onion. No eggs or breadcrumbs in these burgers!
  • Top Tip: Rest your burgers once they’ve cooked. Just 5 minutes will help bring out the flavours and create the juiciest burgers ever! I like to let mine rest with a slice of cheese on top so it goes all lovely and melty.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve these gluten free burgers in my homemade gluten free burger buns or soft gluten free rolls. Add some air fryer chips (or oven chips) on the side or a simple rocket salad or potato salad for a BBQ spread.

Ingredients and Substitutions

There’s a printable recipe card below for these gluten free beef burgers with the full quantities. But here are the main ingredients and ideas for any swaps:

  • Beef Mince: Ensure you use at least 10% fat beef mince – ideally 12% or even 20% fat beef mince (ground beef) will create a better taste and texture for your hamburgers.
  • Onion: A finely chopped onion gives all the flavour you need for these juicy burgers.
  • Fresh Parsley: I love the little flecks of colour that fresh chopped parsley gives to these burgers. You can omit it if you like but I just think it adds something lovely.
  • Olive Oil: This doesn’t go into the burger mixture but you’ll need some to hand for brushing the burgers before cooking. This stops them sticking to the pan or BBQ grill.

The ingredients you’ll need for the beef burger seasoning are:

  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Garlic Granules

How to Make Gluten Free Beef Burgers

There’s a printable recipe card below with the method. But here are some step-by-step photos to show you how easy this gluten free burger recipe is to make.

Left: the burger mixture in a bowl and right: forming the burgers into four patties.

Add the beef mince, parsley and onion to a large bowl and ’squish’ the mixture together well using your hands.

Divide the mixture evenly into four and roll into balls. Flatten each ball to around half-inch thick and then use your fingers to press a dent into the middle of each one.

Cover with clingfilm and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. When ready to cook, mix the salt, garlic granules and paprika together.

Brush one side of each burger with oil and sprinkle with the seasoning. Cook in a medium pan for 7 minutes, brush the tops with oil and sprinkle on the remaining seasoning.

Flip the burgers and cook for another 7 minutes. Once cooked through, rest for 5 minutes before serving up as you please!

Other ways to cook these gluten free burgers:

To BBQ: Place the burger patties on a medium-hot grill. Cook them for 7 minutes each side (or 14 minutes, turning every 2 minutes) until cooked through.

To Grill: Place the burgers until a medium grill and cook for 7 minutes each side until browned and cooked through.

To Air Fry: Brush both sides of the burger with oil and season, then place in the air fryer at 200C for 8-12 minutes, turning half-way through, until cooked through.

To Make Ahead: Simply shape the burger patties and keep them in the fridge before frying. You can also freeze them raw (freeze flat before transferring to a bag or tub) and then defrost before cooking.

To Store/Freeze Leftovers: You can keep any leftover cooked beef burgers in the fridge for 1-2 days (reheat or eat cold) or freeze them for up to 6 months. Reheat before eating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs about this easy beef burgers recipe. If you can’t find the answer to your question here or in the post above, please comment and I’ll try answer!

Are these gluten free burgers dairy free?

Yes! These beef burgers are not only gluten free, but also dairy free and egg free too. This makes them suitable for the whole family without having to make any swaps or substitutes.

Why do you make a dent/dimple in burgers before cooking?

When shaping your gluten free burger patties, making a dent in the middle of each one using your fingers stops the burgers from bloating when cooking.

How do you make JUICY gluten free beef burgers?

The trick here lies in how you season your burgers! Don’t add the seasoning to the burger mixture, instead sprinkle it onto each side just before frying. This stops the salt reacting with the meat and keeps them nice and juicy!
