When it comes to a summer side dish you need this easy, three-ingredient Watermelon and Feta Salad recipe in your life.
It comes together a matter of minutes and is probably the most refreshing salad plate you’ll ever have! Perfect for barbecues and picnics.
Watermelon Feta Salad has become a cult classic, first made famous my Nigella Lawson some two decades ago.
But the idea has been around long before then and Watermelon Feta Salad is often enjoyed in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries.
I often make this during the really hot months as I find the refreshing watermelon pairs so perfectly with the sharp, saltiness of the feta.
With the added mint leaves it takes it to a whole new level. This really is simplicity at its finest.

Can you make watermelon feta salad ahead of time?
If you’re planning an event and trying to get organised you may want to prepare side dishes like salads beforehand.
This watermelon and feta salad is definitely better fresh. Though I have been known to eat leftovers the next day too.
It can be made a few hours in advance if necessary but given it only takes a few minutes to prepare I’d recommend making it just before serving.
How do you make watermelon feta salad?
Honestly this could not be an easier salad to construct as it only has three ingredients.
I always use the pre-chopped watermelon chunks because I am lazy, but you can prepare a fresh melon if you like.
Then simply mix the watermelon with crumbled feta cheese and chopped mint leaves before serving it straight away.
What to serve with watermelon feta salad
I love making this salad to go with any barbecue or picnic spread as I find it’s such a versatile dish.
Add a squeeze of lime or drizzle of balsamic reduction on top if you want to try something a bit different.
My favourite ways to serve a watermelon feta salad are:
- As part of a BBQ platter with grilled meat and fish. It goes with most flavours but a Mediterranean vibe like my Greek chicken kebabs would be the best match.
- With a host of other salads as part of a buffet. I like mine paired with a fresh green salad and a creamy potato salad.
- As a side dish to a summery meal such as my Chickpea and Halloumi Salad or my Quinoa, Feta and Pomegranate Salad.
- Packed up as part of a picnic alongside other salad items and treats such as my Gluten Free Scotch Eggs and my easy vegan and Gluten Free Focaccia.
However you serve it up, this watermelon and feta salad is super tasty and so flexible.
