If there is one thing every coeliac hates, it’s ANOTHER gluten free brownie. That feeling when you walk into a coffee shop or cafe and the only gluten free offering is the humble chocolate brownie.

In fact, when I wrote my post on 19 things you’ll understand if you have coeliac disease, the chocolate brownie seemed to invoke some pure rage!

So here are 13 things every coeliac feels about gluten free brownies, illustrated by the most GIF-able television character and all round legend, Michael Scott.

And if you haven’t seen The Office US, you should all go and watch it now! How many of these are true for you!?

Oh my God A SIGN THAT SAYS GLUTEN FREE!

What could it be, what could it BE!?

Oh wait, it’s another gluten free chocolate brownie…

Just what I wanted to see. Wasn’t expecting that at all.

….maybe there’s another option?

Please God let it not be fruit.

Oh, nope. OK.

Chocolate brownie or starve then! Yippee.

Why aren’t there savoury gluten free options?

I mean the only time I like to eat chocolate for a main meal is Christmas.

Why are my friends eating gluten-y cakes in front of me?

They are no longer my friends.

I’ll try and put on a brave face…

Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave…

…meanwhile inside my brain

I just want to cry, but that would be so inappropriate in the middle of Costa.

Why is it so small?

In fact, why is everything gluten free so small!? Are we all tiny, tiny people?

….and so expensive!?

Hang on let me just take out a loan for my brownie supplies.

And why is it so dry?

I mean, you’ve got ONE gluten free option, you needn’t have bothered.

I’m never coming back here unless they do something else gluten free

#BrownieBoycott. Let’s get that trending.

And that feeling when you FINALLY find something gluten free that isn’t a brownie

Anyone else just want to go and hug the cafe owner? No…? Just me then…

Loving the coeliac humour?

  1. I went for an afternoon tea recently. The garden centre sell so many different gf cakes I thought I was in for a real treat. While my friends ate their fresh cream scones I sat and nibbled my way through chocolate brownies. Grrrr

  2. The bit about no savoury gluten free options and tiny portions got me. Am I not allowed a decent lunch!? Forcing down some salad leaves while your friends dig into a giant cheese toastie hurts me deeply. </3

  3. It’s almost as if, just because something is Gluten Free, we HAVE to actually ‘like it’.

I’ve been for Gluten Free Afternoon Tea where there have been no options whatsoever regarding sandwich fillings. NEVER in a million years, would I select ‘Roast Beef with Horseradish and Wholegrain Mustard’, ‘Smoked Salmon’, ‘Smashed Avocado’, ‘Smoked Ham’, ‘Salmon and Cucumber’ ………………… PLEASE, just give me ‘Ham & Tomato’, ‘Cheese ‘n’ Onion’, ‘Egg Mayo’, ‘Roast Beef & Onion’, ‘Prawn Mayo’ – as long as the bread is ‘reasonably decent’ and Gluten Free ;-).

I HAVE found one local independent coffee shop where they keep GF Paninis in the freezer – and they will do me a Ham & Cheese Toasted Panini ………………….. makes me feel ‘almost’ normal :-D!
