Gluten free Christmas drinks at Costa Coffee

You know the festive season is kicking off when it's time for the Costa Coffee Christmas Menu.

But this can be confusing when you're gluten free - we're so used to thinking about food, sometimes we forget about gluten in drinks.

The good news is a lot of the Costa Coffee Christmas menu is gluten free when it comes to their drinks.

And thanks to their switch to gluten free oat milk in 2021, it eliminates the risk of any cross contamination.

While most of the drinks are safe, sadly there aren't many seasonal food options when it comes to the Costa Christmas range.

Back in 2016 Costa used to do a festive wrap which has turkey, bacon and cranberry.

But sadly the Costa gluten free Christmas wrap is long gone and the chain hasn't offered any gluten free sandwiches or wraps for years now.

However, the old favourite mince pies and Christmas cakes are back, so all is not lost.

Which Costa Christmas drinks are gluten free?

The good news is that pretty much all of Costa Coffee's Christmas drinks range are gluten free.

They have a good selection to choose from too, with old returning favourites such as the black forest hot chocolate and gingerbread latte.

But there are also some new Costa Christmas drinks inspired by Quality Street chocolates.

The following Costa Coffee Christmas drinks are gluten free:

  • Quality Street Toffee Penny Latte
  • Quality Street The Purple One Latte
  • After Eight hot chocolate
  • Black Forest hot chocolate and cream

The following Costa Coffee Christmas are NOT gluten free:

  • Gingerbread and Cream Latte
  • Terry's Chocolate Orange hot chocolate

Of course, please always double check in stores if you're unsure.

This information is based off of the Costa Allergen Menu but information can change so it's always safe to double check.

Costa Coffee gluten free Christmas food

I wouldn't settle in for a long read here folks, because although Costa has a big range of Christmas food, not much of it is gluten free.

There are a few items alongside their non-seasonal offerings which are gluten free.

So all is not completely lost!

The following Costa Coffee Christmas foods are gluten free:

  • Gluten free and vegan Mince Tart
  • Gluten free Christmas cake
  • Winter Frosted Marble Cake - but see below for caveat!

The Winter Frosted Marble Cake is it is labelled as gluten free in the app and allergen guide.

HOWEVER, it is not sealed like the other cakes.

As a coeliac I wouldn't risk it but do feel free to quiz staff and make your own decisions are they may store is separately and use separate tongs, depending on the store.

For those who don't have to worry about cross contamination, it is described as a chocolate hazelnut praline and salted caramel marbled sponge cake,

It's topped with caramel icing and hazelnuts and sounds and looks fabulous, but personally I won't be risking it.

I think some stores also stock a festive Pigs in Blankets variety of Burt's Crisps - which are gluten free too.

Don't forget my Gluten Free Christmas page has everything you need to get you through the festive period!

I've also got a guide to Christmas coffees at Starbucks which you might want to check out too.
