Once You Air Fry Gnocchi You’ll Never Go Back!

  • Why choose this recipe? If you haven’t tried Air Fryer Gnocchi before then beware – because you may not be able to stop eating them once you do! These potato dumplings go *so* crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, they’re very addictive!
  • Is Gnocchi Gluten Free? A lot of shop-bought gnocchi contains wheat flour but you can get lots of great brands from the free from aisles and online such as Rummo, White Rabbit, Garofalo and La Gnoccheria. Also Asda’s ‘normal’ chilled gnocchi is a great accidentally gluten free find! You can also make gluten free gnocchi, but I find this recipe works better with the shelf-stable stuff.
  • Serving Suggestions: I love to serve these on a plate with dips – especially my homemade gluten free pesto and easy marinara sauce. They’re also delicious with aioli or whipped feta – serve with cocktail sticks for the perfect party dish.

Pour the coated gnocchi into the air fryer basket in one even layer. If it’s too crowded (or you have a very small air fryer) then you may need to do this in batches.

Air fry the gnocchi at 200C (392F) for 10-12 minutes, tossing the basket half-way through, until they are crispy and golden on the outside.

Serving Suggestions

Pour the gnocchi into a bowl or plate straight from the air fryer and serve with an extra sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese and your favourite dips.

You can serve this up as a side dish, appetiser or party plate, with cocktail sticks and little bowls of sauces for people to dip the gnocchi into.

Making gluten free gnocchi in the air fryer is also a great alternative to boiling it – simply air fry it and then coat in your favourite pasta sauce before eating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs about this easy air fryer gnocchi recipe. If you can’t find the answer to your question here or in the post above, please comment and I’ll try answer!

Do I have to boil gnocchi before air frying?

Nope! The beauty of making gnocchi in the air fryer is its simplicity. No pre-boiling, simply chuck coat them in oil and seasonings and chuck them straight in.

Can I use cauliflower gnocchi or sweet potato gnocchi?

This air fryer gnocchi recipe works with any type of gnocchi – but it definitely works better with shelf-stable gnocchi, as opposed to freshly made. Obviously if you have smaller or bigger gnocchi pieces, make sure you adjust the cooking times by keeping an eye on them. You want them nice and crispy outside, not burnt!

How do I store leftover air fryer gnocchi?

Any leftover air fryer gnocchi can be kept in the fridge for a couple of days and reheated in the air fryer. I actually quite enjoyed some leftovers cold in place of croutons in a salad – don’t known it til you’ve tried it!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 500 g gluten free gnocchi, (I usually use White Rabbit, Rummo or Asda's own brand gnocchi)
  • 0.5 tsp garlic granules
  • 0.5 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp finely grated parmesan, (plus extra for serving)
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • Dips/Sauces of choice, (optional, to serve)

Instructions

  • Add the gnocchi to a large bowl. Pour over the olive oil, garlic granules, parmesan and salt then mix well to coat.
  • Pour the coated gnocchi into the air fryer basket in one even layer. If it's too crowded (or you have a very small air fryer) then you may need to do this in batches. The gnocchi won't crisp up if it's too tightly packed!
  • Air fry the gnocchi at 200C (392F) for 10-12 minutes, tossing the basket half-way through. Larger dumplings may need a slightly longer cooking time, but they should be crisp and golden on the outside.
  • Pour the gnocchi into a bowl or plate and serve with an extra sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese and your favourite dips (see notes for suggestions).

Notes

  • Serving Suggestions: This air fryer gnocchi can be served in lots of ways! I like to serve it with my marinara sauce and homemade gluten free pesto for dipping as an appetiser or party dish. You can also serve it with your favourite pasta sauce as a main dish. I recommend this serves 2 as a main or 4 as a side dish/sharer.
  • Dairy Free? Omit the parmesan to make this recipe dairy free. For a vegan version ensure you use a vegan gnocchi too.
  • Storage: This dish is definitely best made fresh. Leftovers can be kept in the fridge and reheated in the air fryer.
  • Like this Recipe? It would mean SO much to me if you could leave a 5* rating and a little comment if you make this Air Fryer Gnocchi recipe and love it. It really helps support my blog and get the recipe out there to more people! Thank you xx

Since testing this recipe I’ve actually become mildly addicted to this and we have it every week, it’s so good! My fave is with garlic mayo but that’s a bit naughty, haha!!

Hello. I haven’t actually tried this recipe yet but I am definitely going to soon, got the Rummo gnocchi ready 😊 Just noticed one thing, your video shows you putting the parmesan in the air fryer but the recipe doesn’t say to put it in. It only says to sprinkle extra once it’s cooked. Thanks for yet another yummy recipe and I’m enjoying your book immensely.
