Want to know the best gluten free sausages around? Here’s my guide to my favourite gluten free sausages in the UK. You don’t have to go for a specific free from brand, because there are so many to choose from. Here’s my pick of the bunch…
NOW UPDATED FOR 2025: I first wrote this post way back in 2014 with four of my favourite sausage brands. To my horror, I realised this post suddenly had started getting a tonne of traffic, and half those brands didn’t exist anymore! So now I’ve updated this to make it THE guide to gluten free sausages for 2025.
Often find gluten free sausages can be a bit of a minefield when you’re diagnosed with coeliac disease or following a gluten free diet. Many are made with rusk or wheat flour, so it can be hard to know which sausages are safe to eat.
Luckily things have improved a LOT since I was first diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2002 when there were no gluten free sausages around! Now there are loads!
Here I’ve compiled some of my favourite gluten free sausage brands in the UK as well as the lowdown on supermarket sausages and some other online butchers worth trying!
Heck Sausages

Heck are one of my go-to sausage brands, as all of their sausages are gluten free. I always stock up on the Chicken Italia sausages as they’re my all-time fave – I love them with gluten free pasta in an easy marinara sauce. Their 97% Pork Sausages are a great all-rounder too.
The Black Farmer Sausages

The Black Farmer sausages were the first gluten free sausages I ever tried, and one of my first blog posts back when I was at uni! In my eyes they are the original coeliac-friendly sausage. Perfect for sausage baps and gluten free sausage rolls!
Finnebrogue Artisan Sausages

I love these Finnebrogue Artisan Sausages, they’re so meaty and available at most of the UK supermarkets. They are completely gluten free and also have no artificial additives. I made mine into a sausage tray bake and it was so good!
Jolly Hog Sausages

Jolly Hog do a great range of sausages which are all at least 84% meat content, RSPCA assured and gluten free. Including black pudding sausages which are gluten free! I also highly rate their treacle bacon – perfect for making pigs in blankets!
Tesco Sausages

I’m giving Tesco its very own section because they were the first supermarket to make all of the sausages are gluten free. Usually only the ‘Finest’ (and equivalent ones) are gluten free but Tesco has made all of their own brand ones free from gluten. Hurrah!
Other Gluten Free Supermarket Sausages
Most supermarkets in the UK have gluten free options but these tend to be in their premium ranges. A lot of the standard (aka cheaper) sausages contain rusk and wheat flour still.
Here’s what I’ve found for gluten free sausages in the rest of the UK supermarkets – but always double check any new flavours in case:
- Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference sausages are all gluten free – personally the Toulouse ones are my absolute fave. One for the garlic lovers and great in a ragu!
- Asda’s Exceptional sausages are usually all marked as gluten free. Some of their standard range also now has ‘gluten free’ on its packs, so I must go investigate!
- Morrisons The Best sausages are all gluten free and usually have a good variety of flavours. Their standard range tends to include wheat flour.
- M&S looks to carry a gluten free label on most of its sausages, including the Luxury range and standard range.
- Iceland Luxury pork sausages are gluten free (fresh and frozen). Some of their standard range sausages contain gluten and some don’t. It’s a bit of roulette!
- Waitrose No1 range appear to mostly be gluten free. The wild garlic pork sausages sound like a bit of me! The standard range appear gluten free, Essentials ones aren’t.
- Lidl Deluxe and own brand sausages are sometimes labelled as gluten free. I always double check the packs but largely find them safe.
- Aldi Specially Selected sausages tend to be gluten free. I’m not so sure on their standard range. I find their packs change a lot so always double check.

Other Gluten Free Sausages
It’s always worth asking your local butcher – some butchers are great for offering gluten free sausages, and others not so much. I’ve also found some other brands which offer gluten free – though I have not tried these myself (yet!):
- Peelham Farm: This online butchers offers a good gluten free range, from standard pork sausages to more interesting flavours including mutton and beef sausages.
- The Somerset Sausage Company: I’m always happy to find a South West company to promote and it looks like this online butchers has lots of flavours. Beef and Stilton sausages sound amazing, I’ll have to place an order soon!
- Pipers Farm: This Devon-based company (yay!) offers a range of naturally gluten free sausages, including Frankfurters and sausage meat too.
My Fave Gluten Free Sausage Recipes
Got your fave pack of gluten free sausages but now sure what to make with them? Here are some of my top suggestions:
- Gluten Free Sausage Rolls is of course the ultimate thing to make, with flaky gluten free puff pastry. Try adding some chutney for extra flavour!
- You can’t beat a Gluten Free Toad in the Hole with a simple, golden batter and lashings of gluten free gravy on top.
- Whip up a batch of my Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole for an easy freezer-friendly dish, with baked beans and colourful peppers. It’s so good in a jacket spud!
- You can’t beat my speedy, Creamy Sausage Pasta dish for a great family dinner too. This works well with pork, beef or chicken sausages!
