Ingredients
All you need to make these bacon wrapped halloumi bites are two very simple ingredients:
- Halloumi: This Cypriot cheese was made for eating hot – and yes, halloumi is gluten free. Any halloumi or grilling cheese will work for this.
- Bacon: I use streaky bacon for this recipe. You can choose smoked or unsmoked bacon, I usually flit between the two!
How to Cook Halloumi Wrapped In Bacon
Making this halloumi wrapped in bacon is really simple – and it can be done in either the air fryer or the oven.
Cut the halloumi cheese into eight sticks – you want to create 8 ‘sticks’, so cut the cheese in half lengthways and then cut each half into four, long rectangles.
Wrap each halloumi piece with a rasher of streaky bacon, winding it around the halloumi piece so it covers as much of it as possible.
To bake in the oven: Preheat the oven to 200C / Fan 180C / Gas Mark 6. Line a baking tray with some baking paper. Place the halloumi bites on the baking tray and bake for 15 minutes until the bacon becomes crispy.
To air fry: Follow the instructions above, then place the bacon wrapped halloumi into the air fryer basket with some space between them.
Air fry the halloumi at 200C (392F) for 15 minutes, turning half way, until the bacon is crispy. Serve hot.
These halloumi wrapped in bacon bites are best served hot. You can keep any leftovers in the fridge and reheat, but they are best fresh.
If you want to make them ahead of time, you could cut the halloumi and wrap them in bacon ready to cook them fresh. Just refrigerate until it’s time to cook!
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some FAQs about this easy halloumi and bacon recipe. If you can’t find the answer to your question here or in the post above, please comment and I’ll try answer!
You can eat halloumi cold – but I wouldn’t recommend it! When cooked, halloumi goes all delicious and rubbery. When cold it’s kind of solid and not that great. I’d recommend serving these bacon wrapped halloumi sticks hot!
Of course! To do this, cut the eight rectangles in half, and wrap each piece in half a strip of streaky bacon. Cook for the same amount of time for bitesized halloumi pieces wrapped in bacon.
