Many new gluten free products are launched during Coeliac Awareness Week (May 9-15, 2016) and one of the first companies to announce some new additions were coeliac-favourites Mrs Crimble’s.

Mrs Crimble’s is marking the week with the launch not one, not two, but THREE new gluten free products: gluten free classic French Madeleines, indulgent gluten free chocolate Madeleines and a zesty gluten free lemon cookie.

You might perhaps, like me, know Mrs Crimble’s best for their coconut macaroons. Back when I was first diagnosed some 15 years ago, these were about the only edible gluten free product on the supermarket shelves and I was fed them EVERYWHERE. Every out of school club, every time I went to a friend’s house, every time family visited, there were coconut macaroons.

Mrs Crimble’s has been with me through my whole coeliac journey and despite now not being able to actually face another macaroon, I’m pleased to say their range has expanded somewhat considerably. They now not only deal in baked produce but also things like their convenient pasta packet mixes (see my March favourites) which are a great on-the-go snack.

But back to the matter at hand – the Madeleines! The classic vanilla ones were very nice – I did find them a tiny bit dry but I think with a cup of tea they would be perfect. I don’t normally opt for plain, vanilla cakes anyway – so this is why I very quickly moved on to dive into the chocolate ones!

These were a lot more to my taste – I really liked the gooey chocolate centre and they were very indulgent. As the Madeleines come individually wrapped inside the bag, these would be great for lunchboxes or for parties where you are catering for gluten free guests. In this buffet-style scenario, contamination is a major fear for coeliacs so having these individually wrapped helps a lot.
