Last week I embarked on a new healthy eating regime, and my weigh in on Sunday shows I’ve lost 2.2lbs, so it seems to be working!

However, personal trainer Steve tells me I have lost more muscle than fat – a sign I am not eating enough!

So in a bid to blast that body fat and get super fit, I’m trying to encorporate more ‘meals’ into my day.

So aside from salads and stir frys for lunch and dinner, I’ve been trying to ensure I have regular snacks – grazing throughout the day – which have my essential protein and fat intake.

Cue bright idea number one – smoothies.

Now fruit generally isn’t great for losing fat because of the high sugar levels, but I’m told berries are okay to eat, and packed with antioxidants and vitamins, so I went for it!

I had a leftover avocado in the fridge, and thought I would see what happened when I whizzed it up with the fruit!

I also added some Vita coconut water which I picked up in Tesco. It’s one of those celeb fads that have been raved about – I’m not entirely sure of the flavour on its own but in smoothies it’s great!

This is a great meal smoothie – with fats in the avocado and a scoop of protein powder, I won’t be having it every day but I’ll certainly be experimenting with variations!

Epic smoothie

One avocado

Two handfuls of mixed berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and cherries)

Scoop protein powder (I used chocolate, but unflavoured would be best)

200ml coconut water

Blitz in a blender….and enjoy! Simple.

  1. This is a great smoothie recipe, Sarah. Coconut water contains minerals and essential electrolytes. Some say it is very compatible to the composition of minerals in our bloodstream.

It is also important to be sure your diet contains adequate portions of protein and fat. These will keep your metabolism revving and prevent loss of muscle mass.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more of your posts.
